Document Scanning

The UCSC Copy Center offers scanning of just about any type of document (nothing larger than 11″x17″). We prefer you bring us documents that are de-stapled and de-clipped, though we can charge you for that labor as part of your order.

Please see our pricing page for our scanning fee schedule.

Exams

We offer departments the scanning of completed exams for electronic distribution to TAs and professors, enabling remote grading and processing opportunities.

Professors/their TAs drop off the exams at the Copy Center, scanning the QR code and filling in the information required (SEE LINK). If there are multiple versions of an exam that need to be scanned separately (into different files) the professor/TA will have to sort the paper exams into the versions to be scanned.

We prefer that the exams have the staples removed. If the exams are stapled we charge a reasonable fee to remove the staples, and add an additional day to the turnaround time from when the exams are dropped off.

The de-stapled, sorted (as necessary) exams will then be scanned, and the resulting PDFs will be shared with the professor via Google Drive; the Copy Center will notify the professor at the email provided on the order form that the exams are finished being scanned.

All hard copies of these scanned exams MUST be picked up 10 days after scanning is complete, or the Copy Center will securely shred the exams at the department’s expense. The cost of the shredding will be charged to the professor’s department’s FOAPAL.

General Documents

Bring us one page or a hundred, we’ll scan the job. We charge by the page to scan, and a reasonable fee to manipulate the documents (destapling, declipping, collating, sorting, etc.). We can scan any size up to 11″x17″, and as many documents as you need. Remember, scanning is a time-consuming process, so aside from exam scanning the Copy Center guarantees no quick turn-around after submission. We also offer shredding after scanning for a reasonable cost.

Archives

When your unit is wanting to get rid of bulky paper records, talk with us. We can scan them (one box or many), and help you organize your files so you know what’s there. Contact us by phone at 459-3888 or by email to discuss.
